Overview
WHO recommends the use of typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) for routine immunization programmes in typhoid-endemic countries. In high- or very-high-incidence settings, or where typhoid is associated with a high case fatality ratio or a high burden of antimicrobial resistance, the first dose is recommended at 9–24 months of age; in medium-incidence settings, vaccination from ≥2 years of age may be considered. A booster dose around five years of age should be considered in very-high-incidence settings and may be considered in other settings where waning protection is observed. Four TCV products are WHO prequalified.
