Abstract

The Superior Health Council recommends seasonal influenza vaccination for winter season 2025-2026. Only trivalent vaccines will be available in Belgium: standard-dose vaccines (Alpharix®, Influvac®, Vaxigrip®), adjuvanted vaccines (Fluad®) and high-dose vaccines (Efluelda®). Simultaneous administration with COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective. Vaccination ideally starts in mid-October.

For whom is vaccination recommended?

  1. People at risk of influenza-related complications, such as those aged 65+ (preferably an amplified vaccine), pregnant women, ...
  2. People working in the health sector
  3. People living under the same roof as group 1 or children under 6 months of age whose mothers did not receive an influenza vaccine during pregnancy

Animal versus human flu viruses

Given the risk of simultaneous circulation of animal and human influenza viruses, vaccination against seasonal influenza will also be offered to:

  1. Professional breeders of poultry and pigs and their family members living under the same roof
  2. People who come into contact with live poultry and live pigs through their occupation
