Vaccination in Spain began on June 13, 2022 with an attenuated third-generation vaccine non-replicative (Modified Vaccinia Ankara Bavarian Nordic – MVA-BN-) with two trademarks (IMVANEX and JYNNEOS). The availability of vaccine doses for its prevention was limited since its beginning, due to high global demand and difficulties in manufacturing. Because of this limitation in the available doses, some first vaccination recommendations were approved post-exposure to close contacts (approved by the Public Health Commission –CSP- on June 9, 2022)2 , which were updated on July 12, 20223 , recommending, since then, vaccination in two situations: pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis, prioritizing vaccination pre-exposure in people under 45 years of age with high-risk sexual practices.
These recommendations are an update of the ones from 2023.
