In collaboration with WHO, the National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups Support Hub (NISH) provides training, scientific support, and research for NITAGs in Africa. NISH is hosted by the Vaccines for Africa Initiative (VACFA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Faculty of Health Sciences, South Africa. The project is funded by Wellcome until 2026. 

NISH vision is an Africa free of vaccine-preventable diseases. To this extent, they serve to: 

  • Boost access to relevant, high-quality research evidence to inform improved recommendations for vaccination policies, programmes and practices;     
  • Improve the capacity of NITAGs in vaccinology, evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM), mathematical modelling, health economics, design thinking and health systems;
  • Contribute to the research evidence on vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in Africa; and
  • Create sustainable, long-lasting scientific support for NITAGs.
