The Optimisation Tool is a step-by-step framework, building on the New Vaccine Introduction Prioritization and Sequencing Tool (NVI PST) that helps NITAGs and national immunization programs go through an evidence informed process focusing on the optimization of their current portfolio and schedule, with the objective to maximize health impact within available resources.
Based on a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) approach, it combines country data, expert input, and program realities. This practical tool support countries in the systematic assessment of tradeoffs between different selected optimization options and produce evidence-informed recommendations aligned with national health goals and capacity.
This guidance document is published as an interim version in January 2026 to support countries that may need to urgently address immunization budget challenges.
The final version will be published in Q2 2026, as part of the consolidated VPOP toolkit comprising of the NVI PST and Optimisation tool, following implementation in early countries and subsequent updates.
