Abstract

To make a decision on whether to include the rotavirus vaccine in the national childhood vaccination programme information on burden of disease, genotype distribution and incidence of intussusception are important. Furthermore, analysis of effects and health economics based on these data is necessary. It is important to monitor these parameters to follow the effects and safety after a vaccination has been introduced. In this report the Public Health Agency of Sweden presents national data on disease burden, genotype distribution and safety of available vaccines, as well as a national plan for the surveillance of a rotavirus vaccination programme.
