Abstract

Like all the countries of the world, the year 2020 will have been since its beginning for Burkina Faso a year of promises, expectations but above all challenges. The country was far from suspecting that it would experience the Coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) which had been raging in Asia since December 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic which has hit the world has entered the daily life of billions of beings humans, who learn a little more every day about this disease fought by the whole world.
Alongside the actions carried out in Burkina Faso with the help of its partners to respond to this pandemic (pandemic monitoring, advice on essential interventions, distribution of vital medical supplies to those in need), a race for vaccines was engaged. More than 169 candidate vaccines against COVID-19 are in development, including 26 in the human trial phase.
Although the use of a vaccine is today subject to uncertainties and scientific unknowns (efficacy, availability in the medium or long term, type of vaccines, etc.), it is now crucial to synthesize a scientific and operational approach, so that it can be effectively integrated into the more global strategy to fight the COVID-19 epidemic in Burkina Faso as soon as it becomes available. This is how the Minister of Health entered the GTCV-BF by letter referenced: N°2020 03172 /MS/SG/DGSP/DPV of December 01, 2020 for an informed opinion on the introduction of vaccines against COVID 19 in Burkina Faso.
