Abstract

In consideration of the background, CAVEI recommends:

  1. Defering general vaccination of pregnant women until evidence is available on safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in that group, coming from the clinical studies of vaccines authorized for use in Chile.
  2. Carry out inadvertent vaccination surveillance in pregnant women, that is, of cases of women who are vaccinated in ignorance of their state of pregnancy.
  3. Maintaining in the general population, and in pregnant women in particular, the measures of prevention of infection and control of SARS-CoV-2 in force in the country: use of mask, hand washing, physical distancing, teleworking, quarantines and others measures adopted within the framework of the Step by Step plan of the Government of Chile
  4. In the event that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the risks of inoculation, women with more than three months of gestation could choose to receive the vaccine COVID-19 inactivated CoronaVac, provided that an informed consent is signed that includes information on the lack of evidence on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine COVID-19 in pregnant women.
  5. In the event that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the risks of inoculation, breastfeeding women may choose to receive COVID-19 vaccines after receiving counseling on the lack of evidence on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine COVID-19 in that group.
  6. Previously issued recommendations may change as new evidence become available, especially regarding the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines during the pregnancy and lactation.
