Vaccine Evidence Compendium
The Vaccine Evidence Compendium (the Compendium) is designed to help NITAGs, EPI managers and other vaccine stakeholders in gathering evidence necessary to support decision-making. It offers a single, user-friendly source of evidence that is updated twice a year in alignment with SAGE meetings.
The Compendium can be applied in various contexts, such as introducing new vaccines, selecting or switching products, and updating vaccine policies. By enhancing access to reliable evidence, the Compendium aims to strengthen policy decisions, build public trust in vaccines, and ultimately reduce mortality and morbidity from vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs).
The Compendium is developed and maintained by the World Health Organization (WHO), with support from MMGH Consulting and funding provided by the Gates Foundation.
This version serves as a proof of concept, featuring three vaccines identified as high priorities for countries. Additional vaccines may be included as the Compendium evolves, pending validation and feedback from NITAGs.
Evidence for Vaccine Decision
The Compendium is complementary to other evidence sources and is structured consistently with the Evidence to Recommendation (EtR) framework and with the New Vaccine Introduction Prioritisation and Sequencing Toolkit (NVI-PST). It includes various types of evidence such as WHO position papers, SAGE meeting reports, NITAGs/RITAGs recommendations, published literature, and other publicly available sources.
All evidence included in the Compendium is rigorously reviewed and validated by the WHO's Immunisation Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB) department.
