Abstract

An article from the "Canada Communicable Disease Report" (CCDR), Volume 36 • ACS-10, October 2010. In 2006 the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) approved a routine 2-dose varicella vaccination schedule for children. They determined that the first dose should be administered at 12-15 months of age, and the second dose between 4 and 6 years of age. The purpose of this document is to review information on the epidemiology of varicella, compare the effectiveness of one dose of varicella vaccine with two doses, and to consider a potential change to the current National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendation for a one-dose childhood varicella vaccination program.
