Dutch NITAG is committed to exchange knowledge & collaborate via the NRC

During the meeting of the Dutch NITAG held on April 30th, the SIVAC initiative presented the NITAG Resource Center.


The meeting  was followed by a close discussion between the NITAG chair and sectretaries and SIVAC. The necessity to stregthen collaboration between NITAGs was reasserted and they expressed their support for using the NRC for this purpose. They are committed to share their agenda, the main issues they are working on as well as a list of reference literature and their final recommendations. They also provided a great deal of ideas to further develop the platform.

    The Health Council of the Netherlands recommends rotavirus vaccination for children despite not being cost-effective


    Rotavirus infections cause thousands of hospitalisations a year amongst young children. Vaccination can prevent a large part of these, as well as almost completely banishing mortality from rotavirus. These benefits outweigh the small risk of a serious complication from vaccination, according to the Health Council.

    New Recommendation on Pertussis Vaccination for Pregnant Women - December 2015


    Current vaccination policy, with the first jab around the age of two months, leaves the youngest infants unprotected against pertussis (whooping cough). Young infants, however, are most vulnerable for the diseases and can even die of it. According to the Health Council of the Netherlands, antibodies from the mother can offer effective and safe protection. To this end, The NITAG of the Netherlands recommend that pregnant women should be offered vaccination against pertussis in the third trimester of pregnancy.

    Agenda of the Dutch NITAG Meeting held on September 24th


    The sixth meeting of the Committee on Vaccinations will be held on Thursday 24 September 2015, 13.30-17.00 hrs. in the Charybdiszaal meeting room of the Health Council, Parnassusplein 5, 2511 VX Den Haag (20th floor). Guests from WHO Euro, the Belarussian NITAG and the Georgian NITAG will be attending the meeting.
