    new Interim Recommendations on Vaccination against Ebola Virus Disease from SAGE

    Over the last four weeks, the Ebola outbreak in the Eastern Provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has deteriorated with a large increase in the number of cases1. A major factor in this rise is an increase in critical security incidents that have dramatically affected the ability to identify, follow up and vaccinate contacts successfully. This context challenges the implementation of ring vaccination based on the identification of contacts and contacts of contacts, as recommended by SAGE in April 2017 and confirmed by SAGE during its April 2019 meeting. Further, a potential vaccine shortage may manifest in case the outbreak expands further and/or is prolonged.

    The latest WHO position paper on BCG vaccines

    This position paper replaces the 2004 WHO position paper on Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine and the 2007 WHO revised BCG vaccination guidelines for infants at risk for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It incorporates recent developments in the field of tuberculosis, provides revised guidance on the immunization of children infected with HIV, and re-emphasizes the importance of the BCG birth dose.

    The Nigeria Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NGI-TAG) Meeting was held on October 7th and 8th, 2015 in Abuja. Following the inaugural meeting of August 17th, 2015, this meeting aimed at providing members with an overview of the Expanded Program on Immunization  (EPI) in Nigeria, reviewing and agree upon mode of operation and guidelines in the “NGITAG Procedural manual and guidelines” and Commencing drafting of a strategic plan for the next 3 years.
